Velma Christine Garcia Edwards

Velma Christine Garcia Edwards, age 73, was a loving mother of two beautiful daughters, and
an adoring wife to husband Larry Edwards. Velma transitioned peacefully to be with our Lord
in her home on October 24, 2023 after a courageous fight with ALS disease. Velma was so
graceful throughout her journey. She was a witness to her daughters, sisters/brothers,
husband, family and friends as to what a determined and strong person is; she never wanted
anyone to worry about her [especially my Tammy and my Tina, the affectionate way Velma
addressed her daughters].

Velma was born on September 24, 1950, in Odessa, Texas to her beloved mother,
Baudelia, and father, Arturo Garcia.

She met her husband, Larry Edwards, in 1968 and married him on April 15, 1968. This union
lasted for 53 years. Velma leaves a lasting example to her family and friends of her amazing
inner strength and sincere love for everyone she knew. If you knew Velma, then you knew that
she loved you unconditionally, and she willingly would do anything and everything for you.
She always made you feel very special. She showed her daughters that God and family are
everything. In addition, she did not hesitate to show you tough love when she felt you needed it
because it was her desire for you to be your very best.

She will forever be remembered for accomplishing huge goals and being loved by so many.
Always putting herself last, she was the most generous, selfless person you will ever know.
Velma was always ready to help a struggling friend or stranger. Her dedication as a hard worker
was evident in the Dallas Sheriff’s Department where she retired after 28 years of service.

Velma’s daughters and sister, Yolanda, will fondly remember their weekend shopping sprees,
home decorating, improvement projects and enjoying family events and parties.

She will truly be missed by her dear daughters, husband, grandchildren, brothers, sisters,
nephews/nieces, family, friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her father, Arturo Chavez Garcia, mother, Baudelia Torres
Garcia, and brothers, Arthur Torres Garcia, Jr. and Lionel Garcia.

She is survived by her husband, Larry Paul Edwards, daughters Tammy and husband Trey Hill,
and Tina and husband Ken Weaver. Four grandchildren, who were the light of her eyes: Cody
Hall, Shelby Orelup, Janet Whitworth, and Brian Weaver. She is also survived by five brothers
and five sisters, Robert and Delia Garza, Rudy and Kay Garcia, Enrique and Yolanda Cantu,
Raymond and Carolyn Garcia, Enrique and JoAnn Pacheco, Don and Anita Walts, James
Garcia, Roy Garcia, Von and Lulu Garcia Norman, and Wayne and Lisa Garcia Higginbotham.

Services for Velma Edwards will be Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 10:00am at Trinity Life
Church, 2030 Rowlett Road, Garland, Texas 75043.

A Celebration of Life will follow at 1909 Lakeway Drive, Rowlett, Texas 75088.

Good Friend Forney , Texas

My heartfelt condolences to the family. Velma and I first met while working at Dallas county and became very close friends. We began car pooling and sharing everyday life, with laughs and sometimes tears. Velma was strong, outgoing, and never met a stranger and always was a beautiful hostess at her many gatherings. We all became family, she shared her family with me and I shared mine with her. I am going to miss my friend. We love you Velma and are praying for Larry, your Tammy and Tina as well as the grands, your siblings, and the rest of the family. Love you all, Helen
